YES!!!! She was one of the Chosen

What an unbelievable day!

Jas Stormed into GreyHound Central (GHC) with all she could give.  She was pulling tugging and knowing it was her day.  It was pretty emotional all her friends that paved the way to her survival. So many happy tears!  All the folks that work the intake stations were finally able to give her a proper welcome to Greyt Expectations.

After her grooming she just became the model citizen of the group.   I started to think who is this imposter….. to add to my confusion they bathers put another dogs plastic collar on her.  We use track collars so their martingales won’t get wet and bleed color on the hounds coat during their bath.  Then she waited in her assigned crate watching in silent fascination as folks paraded past.  I kept my distant; I didn’t want her amp’ed for her big day.  I was like the proud dad….. wanting her to shine, on her own merit.  It just didn’t make sense in my mind there were three brindle girls in their crates and they were all being good girls…. which one is Jas….. wait….. look for her kiss spot…. ahhhh there it is…. her little heart above her left eye  yep that’s her….. man she’s being good.  I wonder if the bath washed some of her personality away?  Do good sweetness.  Then I heard it was her turn a volunteered got her from her crate….. oh crap she doesn’t do stairs…. I didn’t teach her stairs……. Crap….. I screwed up.  “Here please let me help her with this”.  Come on Sweetness follow me,  just me and you kiddo one step at a time we’ll go slow I thought.  Atta Girl! Just like a pro! Atta girl!

Now she really started to shine….  It’s your time baby…. Go gett’em

Next thing I hear,  Can you speak to Mike?  He wants to know about Jas… Sure..... What  can I do for you….  I look down….. and she is just working this guy….. she’s leaning into him working his friend’s grey…… and then I saw it!!  She just gave him the look…. This is the one,  huh Jas?  Ok…. nice choice sweetie…… wait for it now……. a few minutes go by…..  wait for it…….. more time goes by……  He says he needs the ok from his other pals in the car with Jas………  You got this sweetness Mike takes Jas to meet his other two smaller breed pups…… “This is the one” he says.

YES!  Way to Go Jas!   Way to go.

Oh man……  you take care of this family Jas that’s your part.  Go give your new home the….What’s in here sir……   Can I eat this sir………  MINE……   I found it…….  IT’s mine……

You’re on your way Baby!

To all the folks at GEGR..... This is what's it's all about.

Adoption Eve,

Hi Folks…….

What an incredible day huh?  That little girl sure did put on a show.  OMG just too funny!

Well….. it’s the night before adoption day and of course we have mixed emotions about tomorrow.  Hoping Jas’ family is there tomorrow, and knowing if they are Jas’ life will change in so many ways…..  All the foster family care for our charges like they’re ours, but when they’re chosen …..well….. they know, it’s different.  I wish I could share all I can say is,  I have seen those faces both the hounds and the families when the choice is made and it’s like Christmas, your wedding, you kids birth, all rolled together and then some.  Tomorrow regardless of whether it’s Jas’ turn, six or seven families will begin the journey that will change their lives their grey’s life in ways…… we can’t even image.  It is so cool……All the volunteers worked so hard getting the hounds ready for tomorrow.  We hope at least six’s GREYT’s find their way home tomorrow.

Jas spent the remained of her day today with me, she is so ready for her very own peeps.  She kept looking out the window today and I couldn’t help but thinking I wonder if she’s looking for her family.  I wish I could have gotten the snap but as I pulled my phone out she would walk away, kinda like saying nah….. you can’t have that picture sir.  But she did give us this.

What a dog!

OK folks if you’re gonna be there tomorrow……  Don’t  forget to bring your soft, stinky, meaty cookies for Jas.  If you’re it’s not your time.  Hang in there, there are so many that need you.  Stayed turned for who the lucky dogs are.

Come on Jas Baby……..

Ahhhhh…. Just another surprise

One thing I can count everyday….. rain, shine; happy, sad; good day or bad when I step in front of my front door. I know…..  I know… on the other side of that door my two hounds are going to be waiting for me with nothing but happiness.  To night to my surprise there were three happy tails wagging.  Ahhhh….. The goof troop have pitched in teaching Jas her role as a pet.  Jas took part in the celebration like she’s been doing it for years.  If you want to understand unconditional friendship look into your hounds eyes.

I know for some you can’t just yet.  Hang in there your time will come.   I could make a pathetic attempt to articulate “that look” but really it’s something you have to experience but once you do…….ahhh  “you’ll get it”.

Jas just took complete advantage of the fact I was sitting in easy…..rub my face…. no my neck…. Ahhhhh don’t forget my ears….. awwwwwwww  right there…..that’s it yeah….. rigggggght…… there ahhhh thanks sir. see ya!  I’m off on anther adventure.  I wish the rules allowed us to let them on the couch she would be a greyt cuddlier.  Can you see yourself mindlessly stroking a creature that won’t ever forget you gave them a shot.  Then make you laugh out loud with innocent mischief.  Ahhhhh…. Chezz She just grabbed a folk.  Jas you don’t have opposable thumbs a fork isn’t going to do you any good….. “get back here”….. I don’t care sir……….  I found it………  IT’s MINE.  There she goes in the crate with…. my fork…..  Nutbar….  What’ta dog!  Oh Jas you are somthin….

She has Cleared Med Hold

Best words I could have come home to this evening.  Cindy reported the medical staff just could not believe this was the same dog.  Frankly I can’t believe it either.  This dog’s life was in doubt when we carried her in.  Steadily but quickly she has recovered since ten days ago.

While many of GEGR volunteers made significant contributions to her survival in the first few hours, Ms Erin wound up sitting on the floor of the vets office cradling her while they drew blood and did they poking and prodding.  Jas was to weak to respond.  But Erin continued to encourage her regardless of the potential emotional risk to herself .

Sunday Erin stopped by to seeing her “ahhhhhh what a difference”.  Now I see the pet you’re going to turn into, Jas baby.  Erin sure did have an lasting effect.  This was of the most endearing visits I have watched yet.  Jas responded to Erin with uncommon calm tender dignity.  I thought to myself “So Jas this is who you are huh?  Oh my……  You are someone’s heart dog.

A couple of days ago I decided it was time to start working with Jas.  Prior I just gave her lots of space and I did not attempt to interact.  This left her a little jittery around me.  I used a few of those basic dog handling skills on her and within a few minutes she calmed and spent 20 minutes standing next to me.  We were just pals enjoying the experience of a new friendship.  I thought wow little one…… you are something special.

And So…… I offer you this folks If you’re willing to put some honest  hard work into building a relationship with a new friend……Jas will make you a believer in what heart dog really means.

If you're a potential adopter look for us this weekend.  I work with you to help you see who she will be.
